Tamarindo Vacation Rentals vs. Hotels: What’s Best for Families and Groups?

If there are more than two or three of you, a condo or villa usually beats a hotel in Tamarindo — on space, on cost per person and on the simple luxury of a kitchen.

Where to look for a rental

Playa Langosta is the sweet spot for families: quiet streets, a calmer beach and a 10–15 minute walk into town. Condos in the gated complexes here often share pools, gyms and playgrounds. The hills have bigger villas with views but you’ll want a car, and central Tamarindo rentals put you in the middle of the nightlife.

What to check before you book

  • Air conditioning in every bedroom — Guanacaste is hot year-round.
  • Real walking distance to the beach — “near the beach” can mean a steep hill.
  • Parking and security — gated complexes with assigned parking are the norm in Langosta.
  • Recent reviews from families and groups like yours.
  • Book through a platform (Airbnb, Vrbo) so your payment is protected.

Prefer a hotel with villa-style space?

Cala Luna has 2–3 bedroom villas with private pools and full kitchens, and The Coast has a two-bedroom ocean-view villa right on the beach — both with hotel service.
